NorDig Metadata specification 1.0

NorDig has developed and specified first common EPG/Event metadata exchange format which is based on TV-Anytime latest version covering NorDig requirements.
The updated TV-Anytime standard version 1.10 (TS 102 822 part 3-1) is the result of close collaboration between NorDig EPG/Event metadata group and the EBU, led by metadata expert and Principal Project Manager Jean-Pierre Evain. Working through the EBU-ETSI BROADCAST Committee, the advanced functionality necessary to meet NorDig’s requirements was added to the standard.

NorDig common EPG/Event metadata exchange format is meant for professional B2B use for all stakeholders in the distribution chain. The specification refers to the NorDig Unified IRD specification and NorDig Roll of Operation.

The NorDig EPG/Event metadata exchange format specification v.1.0, supports NorDig requirement including rights management and cross platform distribution, covers EPG / Event program information both for Live and On Demand content, on all media platforms (broadcast TV, PC, mobile, Tablets, etc.) and distribution networks (DTT, Sat, internet, etc.).

With the specification is released an implementation package, “Guidelines for implementation” including accompanying information and documents.

Guidelines for implementation of NorDig TV-Anytime (TVA) metadata exchange format, is a document meant for broadcasters, other content providers and distributors to facilitate planning and implementation of NorDig common EPG/Event metadata exchange format, based on the TV-Anytime standard, in their production chain, metadata delivering systems and distribution networks.

The Implementation package contains technical guidelines for implementation of NorDig TVA, metadata XML files, NorDig Termslist, NorDig DeviseType, DeviceOS and RightsType lists, NorDig TVA example scenarios and NorDig TVA metadata XML example files.
It also includes “Guidelines for Last minutes update” – document meant for help to broadcasters and other content providers to facilitate planning and implementation of “last minutes update” in their production chain and metadata delivering systems for live and “correcting” Catchup segmenting.

NorDig maintain the specification and will ensure updates of the TVA specification
to supports future requirements and needs in new TVA releases, and will be able to help and support with expertise and know-how about implementation to content providers and distributors.

Background: In NorDig it has been seen that there is an increasing need for a standard for a common EPG / event metadata exchange format that can supports rights management both for live and VOD content cross platforms and networks.
In November 2015, NorDig therefore set up a working group consisting of broadcasters, distributors and other stakeholders to identify needs and investigate possible standards and formats that could support NorDig requirements, where TVAnytime in a updated version to meet NorDig requirement was selected as the best solution.

In September 2017, ETSI approved and release TV-Anytime new version updated with the NorDig requirements.

The specification and guidelines are, as all other NorDig specifications, available and free to use for all interested, NorDig members or non-members on www.nordig.org.
